New York S/S 10: Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs took us to the theatre, ballet and the opera in his latest collection. The looks were heavily layered and referenced and included trends galore. While the collection had the same underlying theme there was a lot of room for individuality amongst the looks and every look captured something different and unique. The models had heavy, Giesha-style make up worn with top buns in there hair to give a Japanese influence. A long, pink, tiered, ruffle dress worn over a stiff pink shirt was beautiful and reminded me of stage costumes. There were ruffles everywhere in the collection, which gave ballet influences especially when worn in white or pastel pink. The accessories of large woven bags really worked as did the bum-bags which it hurts to say looked really good. Sheer leggings, trousers and footless socks also featured as they have done on some of the other shows so far. A green, military officers jacket was made more feminine with a ruffled skirt. My favourite pieces were the checked, ruffled dresses and playsuits. I also loved the looks that showed underwear as outerwear with emerald bra tops over jumpers and shirts as well as bustiers over blazers. The navy and pinstriped ruffled blazer and shorts made a traditional suit, extra pretty. Marc Jacobs delievered a dramatic and exciting show this season and gave women many options.
