New York Fashion Week: Autumn/Winter 2011-12: Part Three

Rebecca Minkoff
This collection is essentially what girls want to wear come Fall. Apologies for the americanism but you can't deny that Fall sounds much more appealing than 'Autumn'. Slimline blazers with rolled up sleeves, high-waisted leather shorts and fur with narrow trousers. These are pieces that you buy for the season and make you look and feel amazing. Movement came from the swish of a maxi skirt and shape was played through voluminous capes and structured body-con.

Costello Tagliapietra
I must say I am a beloved fan of this design duo,  I adore their draping in particular. The opening red hue that could almost be a burnt orange looked gorgeous on the dress. They had many dresses with a just above-the-knee hemline and trousers came adorned with embellishment. Again, we saw a silk/fur combo this time in the form of fur mittens and hats with a silk dress... I shall be experimenting with this shortly.

A burning hand print is always a good start to the proceedings, and a very clear indicator of what was to come. The mood was space-age with a sprinkling of eery distress. A dress with holes appeared almost elegant, and oversized jackets and suits in a washed out grey worked well. The stand-out look was the asymmetric moon-crater dress.

Nicole Miller
Graphic prints a plenty, in shades of blue. There was a futuristic feel that was played out with the metallics and structure of some of the pieces. The occasional glimpses of red, complemented the sea of blue and provided a good distraction. Look 22 needs to find itself on my person as soon as possible please.

Cynthia Rowley
Lurex is the best base for some shimmer as Rowley showed. She mixed textures in this collection and added a few geometric prints. A fur oversized coat looked unbelievably soft. Silk was seen here also as was my worst nightmare...velvet. I wrote a post on velvet a while back, so for my unadulterated comments on the subject, rummage through my archives. I loved the lurex especially when paired with a chocolate leather skirt.
