Mascara Wars. Round One

The battle has begun. The contenders in this beauty fest are Collagen Curl by Collection 2000 and Colossal Volum' Express by Maybelline. I have never used any products by Collection 2000 before so I bought this with much trepidation. The packaging won me over with it's retro, purple tube. I saw the Maybelline mascara on an advert and the model screaming out ''COLOSSAL'' over and over again at me through the screen persuaded me. It doesn't take much really.

Collagen Curl
Brush: Curved brushes always get bonus points. The brush was thick, easy to use and the all important curve gave my lashes a great curl.
Volume: Why have I not been introduced to Collection 2000 before. The thickness of this mascara after two coats was amazing, and rivals some of the luxury brands I usually use.
Length: I wasn't too impressed with the lengthening effect, but the volume made up for the lack of length.
Coats: I needed to use 3 coats of this, to get a look that I was happy with.
Long Lasting: I wore this all day and not a single smudge.
Rating: 3.5/5 - Great brush and volume but not enough length and too many coats needed.

Colossal Volum' Express:
Brush: Nice large bush with lots of bristles, these brushes tend to work best as they reach all eyelashes.
Volume: Not as much volume as the Collagen Curl but after another coat it was very nice indeed.
Length: I'm so happy with the lengthening effect I could sing. The length after one coat is impressive and after 2 coats, it was as the model said ''COLOSSAL''.
Coats: I used two as I'm a mascaraholic, one coat however was sufficient.
Long Lasting: I went bellydancing in this and it stayed on perfectly.
Rating: 4.5/5 - One of the best lengthening mascaras, that I have used and when built up the volume is great. Would have got extra points if it added as much volume as Collagen Curl.

Round One Winner - Colossal Volum' Express by Maybelline
I was naughty and used them together after the test and combined they are the perfect mascara as one has the length and the other has the volume. Plus at £9.00 for the two of them why not.

Prices: Both are £4.99 at Superdrug. Why have I been spending over £20 on mascara for so long. Sigh.

In search of perfection. Mascara Wars

After I purchased the Renewal Lash Serum (last post), I decided to treat myself to another mascara. I use about 6 coats of mascara every day, each coat tends to be a different mascara. It does make one's make-up bag rather heavy. I am trying to get into the habit of using just ONE, so this ONE mascara better be as good if not better than six. The search is on, any suggestions are very welcome. The frontrunner at the minute is Chanel Exceptionnel De Chanel which is divine as well as DiorShow. So my search begins with L'oreal Double Extension Carbon Black.
Step 1: Base coat with Ceramide R - I really like the base coat, it was the right consistency and gave my lashes a lot of length.
Step 2: Carbon Black - I like the intensity of the colour, which deepens the lengthening and thickening effect from step 1. I am impressed. There was also no clumping, even after my generous 3 coats... I couldn't resist.
Overall: Good start to the proceedings, really nice look for everyday although it just isn't dramatic enough for a 6 coats of mascara kinda girl. I did keep applying more coats and it didn't clump so that gets extra points.

L'oreal Renewal Lash Serum

I heart Mascara. Any new mascara, gimmick, or super product my eyelashes are ready. This product is a serum which during the day you apply under your mascara and during the night you apply to your bare lashes. L'oreal claim that it will make 'Lashes feel fortified, look renewed.' It has Arginine and Centella in it which nourish and boost lashes. I have used it for over a week now, in all honestly I wasn't expecting much at all but I bought it anyway. But... my lashes definitely look fuller and healthier, I wouldn't say they are longer but the fullness gives the appearance of longer lashes...very clever eh. So, I shall keep persevering with this and let you know how LashWatch is going.

Boots: £10.99 (free eyeliner when you buy any L'oreal mascara too)

Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara: Review

This is the 2nd vibrating mascara on the market after oscillation, I didn't really see the point of it like I don't see the point in vibrating razors. But hey, its mascara and I love mascara so I thought I'd try it out.
It was quite easy to use surprisingly, I placed the wand on the base of my lashes then switched it on and just used the zig zag motion as I would with a normal mascara. After the first coat I was very impressed, I then put two more coats on and I was very pleased with the results. The wand is quite good it gives more length than volume but I was quite pleased with the volume anyway coming from a girl who uses about 6 coats of mascara I have been converted! Here are the Before and After pics below.

I <3: Mascara

I am obsessed with Mascara it is one of my beauty staples, and I can't leave the house without it. I have lost count of how many I have but these 4 never leave my make up bags so I thought I'd give a review of them as they all have different purposes.

Chanel:Exceptionnel De Chanel Add Image
This mascara is my favourite and is perfect for full and dramatic lashes. The brush is a combination of micro brushes and combs.
To get the best performance out of this mascara you need to turn the brush as you apply it, so you use the brushes and the combs, so your getting full volume with no clumps at the same time.

MAC: Plush Lash
This wonderful mascara from MAC has quite a large brush which has small brushes on one side and slightly larger brushes on the
other side. It works in a similar way to the above Chanel brush so you need to alternate the sides.
This mascara gives a lot of volume, without clumping and if you prefer comb mascaras this one is great to use beforehand.

Dior:DIORSHOW Blackout
This brush is quite long and the brush spirals down, so it can reach all of the lashes including the ones in the corner.
This mascara is very popular in the beauty industry as it is easy to use but gives a really dramatic look,
especially for a night time look and looks fantastic when worn with false lashes.

MaxFactor: False Lash Effect
This mascara is great value for money, the brush is made of lots oro combs which are very flexible,
in order to reach all lashes even though the brush is quite big. I always layer up my mascara with about 6 coats,
usually with a mixture of the above mascara's when I have time. This mascara gives a nice, natural look with about 2 coats when I'm
in a rush.
