Cynthia Rowley
Got to love a bit of Rowley and you got to love a bit of warped floral prints. These prints were divine and the digital effect gave an edgy twist to the usual summer floral. The metallic theme added a gorgeous look to the pieces. Flared dresses, micro shorts and leather mesh were all on offer, in this delightful collection.
Yigal Azrouel
It was simple and well done, exactly how I would order a steak, if I wasn't vegetarian. The flashes of colour worked amongst the basic pieces, reminiscent of Celine in places. I was a big fan of the deep v slinky dress with drawstring waist. I am also liking the jacket/cardigan casually draped over the shoulders look, that have been at a few shows.
Ruffian
Another nod to athleticism was seen at this collection, with the sport of choice being equestrian. Little Mrs Jockey had a sporty feel with a glossy twist. Ruffle necks, block stripes and colour pops all featured. There was a collision between the more austere pieces and the ladylike blouses and dresses. One of my favourite looks was a jewel blue bra top and flirty mini.
Altuzarra
Joseph Altuzarra has given us his take on the athleticism theme which appears to be an emerging trend in New York. Cut-out leather with a mesh effect was undeniably sporty but the parachute straps featured on the shoulders, cemented the trend. The primarily monochrome palette was then given a burst of life in the form of a birds of paradise, hawaiian extravaganza print. I love the complexity of the collection and the variety of pieces used.
Jason Wu
A rather daring collection from Jason Wu, it still had the pretty romance but this time with an edgy and darker twist. The sexy thigh baring shorts were on the right side of cute with the addition of a bow collar and fine knit. Lightweight parkas were the perfect cover up and worked well with the moody floral prints. Peplums, feathers and occasional touches of sparkles added to the femininity. The red-carpet worthy dresses, featured short hemlines at the front and longer lengths at the back.
Monique Lhuillier
This is the red-carpet interpretation of the sportswear trend. Form-fitting and body-con pieces were given an athletic update. The tight ponytails and eyeliner were a clue as was the panelling and leather detailing. Seductive slashes and moments of lace ensured that the collection was still primarily sexy and feminine. A paint splattered print gave the evening pieces a modern and eye-catching look. The red-carpet numbers were just breathtaking. Sigh of content.
Prabal Gurung
There was a lot to take in here. The floral print was beautiful, and the lovely colours still managed to have a dark undertone to it. There were many themes at play including fetishism with leather and rope harnesses and leather detailing in many places. The sheerness attributed to many of the looks gave an ethereal quality to an otherwise eery fairytale mood. The lipstick was amazing with the two-tone effect appearing as if the model's lips were open. Interesting.
